« Si ce n’est pas érotique, ce n’est pas intéressant ». La formule est d’Arrabal. Bien sûr le caractère de ce qui est érotique se mesure mal : Goût ? Style ? Qualité ? Mais pour être authentiquement érotique, on sait que l’expérience doit laisser la part belle à l’imagination.

Les 24 Erotic Tales sont pour la plupart de courtes histoires fantaisistes, parfois relevées d’une touche d’humour, à l’occasion poétiques ou exotiques. On y cherchera en vain la vulgarité ou la sexualité explicite.

Mais voilà, le générique des Erotic Tales impressionne : Ken Russell, Hal Hartley, Rosa von Praunheim, Bob Rafelson, Susan Seidelman, Melvin van Pebbles, Paul Cox, Mika Kaurismäki, Amos Kollek pour ne nommer que ceux-là.

Le tour de force de Ziegler Film (»), la société allemande productrice de la série, a de quoi intriguer. Permettre à ces prestigieux cinéastes d’explorer le continent érotique à partir de leur propre univers ne peut que susciter la curiosité et alimenter les fantasmes cinéphiliques. Un rendez-vous (galant) à ne pas manquer…

Beginning in the 50’s, painter, poet and theoretician, Guido Molinari produced a consistent and rigorous body of work that alternated between the rational and the sensorial. He was in favour of resolutely abstract painting that would put an end to Romanticism and Symbolism. Here he speaks of the evolution of abstraction and the theoretical debates of this intense period that was 1950’s Quebec. He presents his pivotal works, and touches on the concepts that underlie his artistic approach within the context of the intermingling of the artistic circles of Montreal, Paris and New York.

From the director who made THE STREET: A film with the Homeless and the team that made SPIT: Squeegee Punks in Traffic, comes CHAIRMAN GEORGE, a free-wheeling, jet-setting documentary which follows George Sapounidis’ musical trajectory through China, Ottawa, and Greece…chasing the Olympic Torch.

In Canada, George is a statistician. But in China, George is Elvis… CHAIRMAN GEORGE is a documentary feature about a Greek-Canadian troubadour who refuses to live anything but an extraordinary life. ln Ottawa, George is a statistician who lives with his mother. But every few months, he takes an extended leave from his job and heads to China where he metamorphoses into an international man of culture. Armed only with his bouzouki, guitar and cell phone, he becomes a star in China (with both the critics and the ladies). He concludes that since he is “the only Greek in the world who can sing in Chinese,” it is his duty to perform at the Closing Ceremonies of the Athens Olympic Games, as the torch is passed from Athens to Beijing.

Animation Students present their 2005 Animation Festival at Hall Building, Tuesday, May 10th from 7pm to 10pm EDT, although please give generously at the door as they modestly suggest a $2 donation.

On Monday, May 9th 2005, there will be a showcase of Experimental and Documentary work from Concordia’s production programme. A $5 donation is suggested.

Sunday, May 8th offers a night of Student Narrative Fiction Films at the Hall Building, at Concordia University. It begins at 7pm EDT.
